Storm Studios | Molon Lave (GR)

Molon Lave was the original name for Storm Studios which was responsible for a number of Hellenic black and death metal classics. I personally enjoy a lot of these releases. My favourite album from the below list would have to be His Majesty at the Swamp which is simply untouchable. Go Underground Record Shop. Storm Studio was in the building above in an old apartment. Owned and operated by George Zacharopoulos, George is still the bassist and vocalist in Necromantia and Thou Art Lord. He was also keyboardist (Morbid) for Rotting Christ during their most prolific period. This list is by no means exhaustive either. Colombia produced some utterly insane proto-death/black metal in the 80's however this EP is something else. When you think of Colombian EP's the ones that come to mind are Astaroth , Herpes and of course the bizarre Nemesis but this release is as illusive as it is interesting. Formed in 1984 and disbanded in 1988 this is the only known release although they had several other tracks. Glöster Gladiattor played at "Batalla de las Bandas" in 1985 alongside other bands in Medellín like Spol , Mierda , Danger , Excalibur , Parabellum , Lasser and Kraken according to Metal-Archives. Their setlist was Heavy Metal es la Solución , Fariseos , Caos y Destrucción , and Terror en mi Cerebro . This independently released 7" was pressed on the thinnest yellow toilet paper ever manufactured. Audio cassettes hold a special place in my black heart. Listening to an output by an artist on these little plastic rectangular storage devices conjures a special feeling within. This is not because of the analogue format. Definitely far from it. The main reason is musicians and bands put a significant amount of effort, thought, dedication and passion into a release that is, for the most part, their first offering. It is the closest and purest thing to articulating their sound and vision, in its purest form, to the listener. It encapsulates musical integrity and truth. In an endearing way, demos are also raw and often awkward in musicianship and musical composition. It lacks pretence. In a world full of posers, cookie cutter bands, and trends it's refreshing to find an artist that ticks all the boxes. What better way than popping in a tape and pushing down on that 'Play' button.
